Player ratings: Koln 2-4 RB Leipzig

RB Leipzig moved up to third in the Bundesliga table with a thrilling 4-2 win away to FC Koln on Monday night.

The home side took a seventh minute lead through Jhon Cordoba after an energetic start but RB Leipzig soon showed their superiority. Patrik Schick headed home a 20th minute equaliser with Christopher Nkunku raced through on Timo Horn before chipping the ball over the goalkeeper.

Timo Werner scored a one-on-one of his own five minutes in the second half after being played in by goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi.

Anthony Modeste scored the goal of the game with a 30-yard strike after bringing the ball down and creating space for himself to get a shot away. The 2-3 deficit only lasted two minutes though as Dani Olmo restored the visitors’ two-goal advantage by finishing off a nice move from 18 yards.

Here are Bundesliga 365’s player ratings from Koln 2-4 RB Leipzig:

Peter Gulasci 7 – Didn’t have much of a chance with either goal and made a couple of smart stops. Also recorded an assist for the third goal with his clearance sending Timo Werner through one-on-one.

Nordi Mukiele 8 – Ismail Jakobs had a very quiet game down the wing and was eventually substituted. Nordi Mukiele picked off a few passes in the youngster’s direction and won a couple of free kicks for his side.

Dayot Upamecano 8 – Made a number of clearances and showed good distribution of the ball.

Lukas Klostermann 8 – Made an excellent challenge inside the penalty area to deny Anthony Modeste a one-on-one whilst won his fair share of aerial battles.

Angelino 9 – Florian Kainz offered little going forward for the hosts whilst Angelino created numerous chances for his teammates when bombing forward for RB Leipzig, including the cross to provide Patrik Schick with the equalising goal.

Dani Olmo 8 – Scored a fine fourth goal to seal the three points for Julian Nagelsmann’s side in what was arguably Dani Olmo’s best performance since arriving in January. The Spaniard missed the opportunity to finish a fine move later on.

Marcel Sabitzer 9 – Got on the ball alot and started several attacking moves from the middle of the park. Tested Timo Horn a couple of times himself.

Konrad Laimer 7 – Played a more defensive role in the middle of the park but was still able to register an assist. Given a rest after an hour.

Christopher Nkunku 8 – Scored a fine finish to give RB Leipzig the lead for the first time short before the break. Christopher Nkunku saw a lot of possession during the game but didn’t have too many noteworthy moments after scoring.

Patrik Schick 7 – Equalised on 20 minutes after FC Koln had made a good start. The Czech forward got in a number of good positions afterwards but missed several good headed opportunities before he was substituted midway through the second half.

Timo Werner 7 – Produced a tidy finish when one-on-one to give the visitors a 3-1 lead shortly after half-time. Timo Werner forced a couple of saves out of Timo Horn but otherwise wasn’t a hugely influential figure in the game.

Tyler Adams (33 mins) 6 – Looked after the ball when in possession but didn’t do anything special in the middle of the park.

Amadou Haidara (24 mins) 6 – It was an end to end game when Amadou Haidara was introduced but the young midfielder didn’t see much of the ball.

Emil Forsberg (8 mins) N/A – Barely touched the ball in his cameo appearance but there was sufficient time for Emil Forsberg to pick up a yellow card.
