Player ratings: Union Berlin 0-2 Bayern Munich

An efficient Bayern Munich saw off Union Berlin in the country’s capital on Sunday evening to restore their four point lead at the top of the Bundesliga as the league restarted this weekend.

Robert Lewandowski scored the game’s opening goal with a penalty in the 40th minute – the only shot on target from either side prior to Benjamin Pavard heading home a corner in the final 10 minutes.

Here are our player ratings from Union Berlin 0-2 Bayern Munich:

Manuel Neuer 8 – Only had one effort to save and that was directed straight at him inside the opening five minutes. Manuel Neuer’s dealt with crosses and corners very well and his positioning prevented Union Berlin getting any chances from these.

Benjamin Pavard 9 – The busiest of Bayern’s defenders this evening, Benjamin Pavard didn’t allow much passed him at right-back today as well as making the odd defensive headed clearance. Headed home their second goal to put the game beyond Union’s reach in the final 10 minutes.

Jerome Boateng 8 – Some good raking long balls forward and a comfortable game defensively. Union Berlin never looked like scoring after the opening 10 minutes.

David Alaba 8 – Comfortable game in defence as neither Anthony Ujah, Marcus Ingvartsen, Marius Bulter nor Union’s attacking substitutions saw much of the ball in the final third.

Alphonso Davies 7 – Bombed forward down the left and put a couple of nice passes into the penalty area. Alphonso Davies’ game was littered with heavy touches and misplaced passes. Day one back at work – you can expect better from the teenager and this Bayern Munich side in the coming weeks.

Joshua Kimmich 8 – Looked after the ball well and put a good corner in for Benjamin Pavard to head wide early in the second half.  Then found the French international later in the half to assist the second goal.

Thiago Alcantara 7 – Distributed the ball fairly well and saw a lot of it today but never created much at all.

Thomas Muller 7 – The experienced forward got in some very good positions but his first touch let him down on more than one occasion. Bayern would have been ahead earlier had Thomas Muller not poked home Serge Gnabry’s goalbound effort from an offside position early on. Will be disappointed not to be among the goals today but three points were the most important thing for Bayern Munich today as they look to get closer to full match fitness in the coming weeks.

Leon Goretzka 6 – Seemed off the pace today playing behind Robert Lewandowski, but it was his quick reactions that won Bayern Munich their penalty which proved to be the difference today.

Serge Gnabry 8 – Came to life in the final 20 minutes, creating an excellent chance for Kingsley Coman before forcing a good save out of Rafal Gikiewicz.

Robert Lewandowski 6 – Only shot on target was his penalty in an otherwise quiet game for Robert Lewandowski.

Kingsley Coman (20 mins) N/A – Excellent opportunity on the counter in the final 15 minutes but couldn’t work out if it was a shot or a pass that gave Union Berlin a goal kick. Didn’t see much else of the ball.

Ivan Perisic (6 mins) N/A – Back from an ankle injury to make a late substitute appearance.
