Player ratings: Dortmund 4-0 Schalke

Borussia Dortmund ran out and clear and decisive 4-0 winners over Schalke 04 in the Revierderby at Signal Iduna Park on Saturday afternoon as the 2019-20 Bundesliga restarted after a two month lay-off.

The hosts dominated the game from start to finish before taking the lead on 29 minutes through Erling Haaland’s effort. Raphael Guerreiro scored a brace either side of Thorgan Hazard’s strike shortly after half-time.

Here are our player ratings from Borussia Dortmund 4-0 Schalke 04:

Roman Burki 7 – The Borussia Dortmund had a couple of time efforts to gather but nothing difficult during the 90 minutes.

Matts Hummels 7 – A comfortable day for the back three as Daniel Caligiuri, Benito Raman and Guido Burgstaller never looked like scoring.

Manuel Akanji 7 – Made one strange and risky pass early on but otherwise looked comfortable all afternoon.

Lukasz Piszczek 7 – Another game at centre-back under his belt. Lukasz Pisczek will have more difficult afternoons to come in a back three than this.

Achraf Hakimi 8 – Looked a menace down the right in the first half but not too adventerous as Borussia Dortmund kept adding to their lead.

Thomas Delaney 8 – Looked after the ball well and distributed it forward before being replaced midway though the second half.

Mahmoud Dahoud 6 – Largely quiet afternoon in central midfield with a number of short passes and nothing of note.

Raphael Guerreiro 9 – Took advantage of poor defending on two occasions to score a brace as a left wing back.

Thorgan Hazard 9 – Wasn’t named in the original starting lineup but had an excellent game. The Belgian international set up the opening goal and scored early in the second half to put the game beyond Schalke if it hadn’t been already.

Julian Brandt 9 – Excels in a more attacking role than when he was deployed much deeper earlier in the season. Julian Brandt kept the ball moving in the final third and registered two assists.

Erling Haaland 8 – Scored the opening goal and setup another but didn’t break too much of a sweat in the second half.

Lenoardo Balerdi (23 mins) N/A – Second Bundesliga appearance for the young Argentine midfielder.

Jadon Sancho (12 mins) N/A – Late run out for the English forward who was an injury doubt for the game.
