Bayern Munich centre-back Niklas Sule finally returned to training on Monday morning.
The 24-year-old has been on the sidelines since rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during the 2-2 draw away to FC Augsburg on Saturday 19 October 2019; virtually four months ago.
Sule’s first training session back on the pitch lasted 25 minutes on Monday, the club confirmed.
Prior to his injury back in October, the German international had played the full 90 minutes in 10 of Bayern Munich’s 11 competitive matches, rested solely for the DFB Cup first round trip to Energie Cottbus, in which he was actually introduced as a substitute late on.
Head coach Hansi Flick has had a defensive injury crisis this season, with Lucas Hernandez and Javi Martinez also on the sidelines currently. It has resulted in David Alaba moving into a centre-back role and teenage winger Alphonso Davies dropping back into a left-back role.
Niklas Sule is still several weeks away from making his return to competitive action but this comes as positive news for the Bavarian side.
