Borussia Dortmund have completed the signing of Germany international Emre Can from Italian Serie A champions Juventus, the club have announced.
The 26-year-old was only with the record champions of Italy for 18 months after joining on a free transfer from Liverpool. Can made eight league appearances for Maurizio Sarri’s side this season.
Can has initially joined on loan for the remainder of the season with an agreement to make the deal permanent over the summer.
The central midfielder originally came through the youth ranks at Bayern Munich but only made four Bundesliga appearances before moving to Bayer 04 Leverkusen for the 2013-14 season where he split his time between midfield and left-back under Sami Hyypia.
Emre Can has represented Germany at all youth levels from U15s upwards and has 25 caps for Joachim Löw’s senior national team.
Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc is happy with the versatility of the club’s latest signing, saying:
“In Emre Can, we’re signing a Germany international who can be deployed in several positions in defence and central midfield across multiple systems. A player with technique and a physical presence who possesses a strong will to win.”
Borussia Dortmund are in the Bundesliga title race this season and face Paris Saint-Germain in the second round of the Champions League, with the first leg taking place at Signal Iduna Park next month.
Emre Can is eligible to make his BVB debut in tomorrow’s home game against Union Berlin.
