Bayer 04 Leverkusen have announced the signing of Exequiel Palacios from River Plate.
The 21-year-old midfielder already has four caps for the Argentina national team.
Palacios will officially join the Bundesliga side on 1 January 2020 when the international transfer window opens. He has signed a five-and-a-half year deal in Germany.
The central midfielder has scored one goal and registered one assist in his 15 Argentine Superliga appearances (12 starts) so far this season. He’s been a regular in the Copa Libertadores for River Plate too, playing 26 games in all competitions.
Exequiel Palacios is a technically gifted player who is an excellent passer. He’ll be good at helping Peter Bosz’s side maintain possession whilst also creating chances from the middle of the park.
Bayer Leverkusen sporting director, Simon Rolfes, explained the club had been looking at the player for a while, telling the club’s official website:
“We’ve been looking at Exequiel Palacios for a long time and he’s really impressed us.
“Exequiel has achieved a lot in spite of his young age. He stands out with his football ability and a remarkable mentality.”
Exequiel Palacios won the Copa Libertadores last year, shortly after making his senior international debut in a friendly versus Guatemala.
