Hans-Dieter Flick will remain as interim head coach of Bayern Munich for the remainder of 2019, the club have confirmed today.
The announcement was made by chairman and CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge at the Annual General Meeting at the Olympic Hall in Munich on Friday evening.
“Last Saturday, Uli Hoeneß, Hasan Salihamidzic and I publicly announced that Hansi Flick is our head coach ‘until further notice.’ And since we don’t want to be asked every Saturday whether Hansi will be our head coach for the next match, I’ll tell you, dear members: ‘until further notice’ means Hansi Flick will bear responsibility in terms of sport at least until Christmas, and potentially beyond.”
Bayern Munich have won both of their matches under Hans-Dieter Flick following the dismissal of Niko Kovač on 3 November, the day after the 5-1 thrashing at Eintracht Frankfurt. The Bavarians defeated Olympiacos 2-0 in the Champions League in Flick’s first match before hammering Borussia Dortmund 4-0 on Saturday.
The defending champions are four points behind surprise league leaders Borussia Mönchengladbach after 11 games. Flick will take his side to Fortuna Düsseldorf on Saturday 23 November after the international break.
