VfL Wolfsburg are adding more South American flair to their side this summer having today announced the signing of Brazilian left-back Paulo Otavio from FC Ingolstadt.
The 24-year-old joins fellow countryman Joao Victor to arrive at the Volkswagen Arena this summer and has signed a four-year contract with the Wolves that will keep him at the club until 30 June 2023. Neither club has disclosed the details of the transfer.
Otavio moves to the Bundesliga side coming off the back of a season where his Ingolstadt side were relegated from the 2. Bundesliga.
Wolfsburg sporting director Marcel Schäfer commented on the club’s official website:
“Paulo is a player with a lot of speed who puts in a shift and has plenty of other qualities besides, the like of which we need on the left side of defence. He has steadily developed over the past three years at Linz and Ingolstadt, and has everything he needs to take the next step in his career with us. He will also be a very good fit in the team in terms of his personality.”
Paulo Otavio became a regular for FC Ingolstadt last season after signing from LASK Linz during the 2016-17 campaign. During his time with the Austrian club he played under current Wolfsburg head coach Oliver Glasner. He made only a handful appearances in his homeland before moving to Europe and Austria. He has not experienced top flight football in Europe.
The Brazilian becomes the club’s third summer signing after Kevin Mbabu and Joao Victor.
