Werder Bremen will officially make the transfer of Marco Freidl from Bayern Munich permanent when the international transfer window opens on 1 July 2019.
The 21-year-old defender has been on loan at the Weser Stadium since the end of January 2018. He made 16 Bundesliga appearances and two more in the DFB Cup. He picked up three yellow cards in his seven Bundesliga appearances (5 starts) this past season.
Friedl has spent 10 years at Bayern Munich, making one appearance in both the Bundesliga and Champions League. He is an Austrian Under-21 international.
Florian Kohfeldt’s side finished 8th this past season with the head coach predominantly playing defenders Ludwig Augustinsson (25 years old), Theodor Gebre Selassie (32), Niklas Moisander (33), Milos Veljkovic (25) and Sebastian Langkamp (31).
The Green-Whites has obviously identified Marco Friedl as a long-term prospect at either centre-back or left-back in what is an ageing defence. Bayern Munich have already agreed a deal to sign 2018 World Cup winning defender Benjamin Pavard this summer.
