Eintracht Frankfurt have exercised their option to sign Luka Jovic on a permanent basis from Benfica.
The 21-year-old was previously on a two-year loan from the Portuguese giants but has now signed a four-year deal at the Commerzbank-Arena untli 30 June 2023.
Jovic is having an excellent season in Germany, scoring 17 goals and added a further six assists in his 27 Bundesliga appearances. He has a further eight goals in 11 Europa League matches this season, helping the Eagles reach the quarter-finals whee they will have Benfica in their first leg later this week. Jovic was part of the Eintracht team that won the DFB Cup under Niko Kovac last season.
Eintracht Frankfurt board member Fredi Bobic has been thrilled about the striker’s development:
“Luka’s development with us has been great to see. For us there was never any doubt about wanting to bring him here permanently. He’s a player with extraordinary abilities. It’s important for us to sign him.”
Luka Jovic is an excellent finisher in front of goal who also likes to bring teammates into play. He’s been a good threat on the counter-attack this season too.
However, Eintracht Frankfurt may have made the view permanent as early as this month as the Serbian is reportedly attracting attention from Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid. Last season’s UEFA Champions League winners recently re-appointed Zinedine Zidane as their head coach and the Frenchman is seemingly interested in adding competition for places up front at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
Should Jovic be sold to Real Madrid this summer then the reigning DFB Cup holders could expect to make significant profit in just a short period of time.
