VfL Wolfsburg midfielder Junior Malanda has died in a car accident, German newspaper the Bild have confirmed.
The 20-year old was confirmed dead at 15:35 local time this afternoon after being involved in a car accident.
Junior Malanda’s car was travelling at excessive speed, police have confirmed. The footballer was a passenger in the back seat.
The Wolfsburg holding midfielder had made 10 Bundesliga appearances (4 starts) for the Wolves during the first half of the season and was held in high regard.
Malanda joined the German side from Zulte Waregem last season and was starting to establish himself as a first team player under Dieter Hecking as the first half of the season wore on.
Junior Malanda was a 15-time Belgium under-21 international. He had trained with both Anderlecht and Lille at youth level and was expected to go on to become a senior international in the future.
