Wolfsburg appoint Dieter Hecking

VfL Wolfsburg have confirmed Dieter Hecking as their new head coach to lead them into the second half of the season when the Bundesliga resumes in January.

Dieter Hecking has signed a contract through to 2016 and joins from fellow Bundesliga side 1. FC Nürnberg.

Wolfsburg made a poor start to the season under Felix Magath before relieving him of his duties in October. Under-23 coach Lorenz-Günther Köstner had been in charge for the past nine games, winning four, including their 3-2 victory at Borussia Dortmund before the winter break.

Hecking has also coached Hannover 96 in Germany’s top flight.
