With Bastian Schweinsteiger breaking his collarbone in Bayern Munich’s Champions League win over Napoli midweek, Austrian international David Alaba is set to replace the vice-captain in centre midfield alongside Luiz Gustavo for tomorrow’s trip to Augsburg.
The motor of the midfield is not expected to return until the New Year and has left big shoes to fill for the 19-year old who had first team experience on loan at 1899 Hoffenheim last season.
Coach Jupp Heynckes appears to be favouring the youngster over the experienced Anatoliy Tymoshchuk and promising attacking midfielder Toni Kroos who is capable of playing in that role.
The experienced coach appears not to be favouring the latter idea as he wants to keep his successful attacking trio in place; Thomas Müller, Kroos and Franck Ribery supplying the prolific Mario Gomez.
Heynckes has been impressed with what he has seen in the youth product during the eight times he has been brought on this season.
Bayern Munich are widely-expected to comfortably beat newly-promoted FC Augsburg on Sunday, having made light work of Nurembrg (4-0) and Ingolstadt (6-0) in the DFB Cup in their last two domestic fixtures, but after coming off a midweek tie with Napoli in Europe.
