Bayern Munich came home from the Veltins-Arena this evening with a 2-0 victory setting a new club record in the process.
Goals in either half from Nils Peterson (21) and Thomas Müller (75) were the difference in this game as Jupp Heynckes’ side moved back to the top of the Bundesliga table.
Bayern Munich have now won their last eight games in all competitions without conceding a single goal.
Manuel Neuer was on the end of howls from the home fans following his big money move over the summer from Schalke to Bayern Munich.
Nils Petersen, starting in place of the injured Mario Gomez was keen to get his name on the scoresheet having failed to take a couple of good chances midweek in Europe. It took him 21 minutes to do just that at the second attempt. Franck Ribery who was in fine form this evening released Petersen in behind the defender. Ralf Fährmann was able to save the first attempt, but Petersen made no mistake with the follow up.
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar missed a couple of efforts in the first half but it was the home side who started on top in the second 45. However they failed to find a killer pass in the final third to unlock the Bayern defence that haven’t conceded since Gladbach on the opening day.
Thomas Müller settled any nerves Munich fans may have had with fifteen minutes to go when he smashed home from close range.
Bayern Munich host Bayer Leverkusen next Saturday evening. Before that, Schalke 04 look to get back to winning ways when they host SC Freiburg.
